Children from 3 months up to 18 months are cared for in the Child Development Centre while their moms attend school, parenting programs or counselling sessions. The Centre is fully equipped with stimulating toys and equipment to encourage early learning through play. Placement students and caring volunteers assist our staff in providing age appropriate programs, which include music, crafts and outdoor activities.
Community Education Program
We educate over 7000 high school students annually, with our Realities of Teen Pregnancy program. This is an opportunity for young parents to share their stories about the realities of teen pregnancy and parenting. Teen parents speak about their experiences, answer students' questions and encourage them to make informed choices.
We also facilitate community presentations to service organizations in York Region. If you, or your organization, are interested in having us come in to make a presentation with your group, please contact Rose of Sharon at 905-853-5514.
Educational Services
Rose of Sharon offers a Section 23 Classroom in cooperation with the York Catholic District School Board. This academic program offers high school correspondence courses, high school credits, and educational resources and operates through the school year from September - June.
Individual Counselling
Counsellors provide pregnant teens and young mothers with supportive counselling services through office and home visits. Sessions focus on problem solving, goal setting, parenting, relationships and personal issues. Referrals are made for housing, childcare, educational programs and financial assistance.
Rosie’s Closet
Rosie’s Closet is a place where moms can access food, diapers, formula, gently used clothing and other baby items. Donations from the community support this program run by our dedicated volunteers.
